SPAR wholesaler for the north of England, James Hall & Co., has re-launched one of its company owned stores in Wolsingham, County Durham.

There has been a SPAR store at the heart of Wolsingham village since 1995 and whilst the store has always been popular with local residents, the new purpose built, 3,000 sq. ft SPAR store will offer customers a larger shop floor, butchery and deli counter, and the addition of forecourt facilities.

Built on the site of a former garage on the A689, SPAR Wolsingham will now feature eight Shell fuel pumps, air, water and vacuum facilities, customer car parking bays and two cycle hoops for four bicycles.

The new 3,000 sq ft. SPAR store will offer local residents the very best in modern convenience shopping including a Graham Eyes butchery counter and Clayton Park Deli, a large selection of everyday essentials, fresh and ambient produce, household and beauty, beers, wines and spirits.

Fiona Drummond, Company Owned Stores Director at James Hall & Co. said, “SPAR Wolsingham has proudly served its local community for 26 years. We took the decision to invest in a new site on the outskirts of the village to create a larger, purpose built SPAR store with additional services that will bring value and convenience for local people.

“By extending the shop floor, we have been able to include a larger range of products and the addition of a Graham Eyes butchery counter and Clayton Park Deli. In an age where supermarkets are closing butchery and deli serve overs, we have seen an increase in customers looking to buy fresh, quality meat from their local convenience store. Graham Eyes is an award winning, family butcher who currently features in eight of our north of England SPAR stores – his award winning produce has proved extremely popular with SPAR customers.

“The new Clayton Park Deli will offer customers a delicious selection of fresh sandwiches, wraps and salads that are handmade while customers wait. We also have fresh cream cakes, pies and curries, and a 100% Arabica Fairtrade coffee brand – Cheeky Coffee. For those who love a regular caffeine kick, there is a Cheeky Coffee loyalty scheme, and a popular SPAR meal deal which is perfect for those picking up lunch on the go.”

Fiona added, “Safety is of paramount importance and we have installed a number of COVID-19 safety measures across the store including Perspex till screens, SPAR branded hand sanitiser stations and social distancing markings. We are confident that customers will be delighted with the new SPAR Wolsingham site and look forward to welcoming new and existing customers for their essential shops. Here is to another 26 years in the village!”

The new store launched on Tuesday 2nd  February and will be open between 7am-11pm, seven days a week.
