James Hall & Co. Ltd, North West distributor for SPAR, is sponsoring a series of local running events, to be called The SPAR Series, helping to inspire active lifestyles in communities.

The three established events are delivered by local media group Quest Media Network, who are committed to creating an enjoyable occasion for the whole community, including the MyFirst Mile event for adults and children.

The SPAR Series combines the City of Preston 10k, Ron Hill Accrington 10k, and the iconic Tour of Tameside which includes four events to form an unmissable racing sequence.

Ron Hill Accrington 10k: 30th April 2023

Tour of Tameside

The X-Trail 10K: 15th June

Hell On The Fell 6 mile: 16th June

Hero Half Marathon: 17th June

Dr Ron Hyde 7 mile: 18th June

City of Preston 10k: 24th September 2023

With a local focus in mind, the mission is to encourage active lifestyles, and healthy eating and ultimately help to create happier communities.

Rising costs and uncertainty have meant that investment in health and well-being is not always a priority. SPAR and Quest Media know that this is the key to a happier life.

As the headline sponsor for these events, SPAR is instrumental in ensuring that events like this are accessible for all.

Thomas Murphy, Marketing Manager at James Hall & Co. Ltd said: “We are excited to extend our partnership with Quest Media Network. Over the past few years, we have been headline sponsor of the SPAR City of Preston 10K, which has been a great success and to be able to grow the partnership into ‘The SPAR Series’ allows us to connect and engage with more local communities, which is fantastic.

“As a brand we put community into the heart of everything we do, we look to nurture our neighbourhoods and a partnership like this allows us to make a positive impact on the communities in which we serve. We are looking forward to all the events and hope to see as many people as possible get involved, whether that be by running, volunteering or supporting one or all the events.”

Emma Marsh, CEO of Quest Media Network said: ‘’We are delighted to be working alongside SPAR and the team at James Hall in Preston to deliver The SPAR Series. Three great runs, which now have a fantastic partner to headline. Their ethos and vision mirror ours, and our dedication to getting communities healthier and happier will elevate even further with this partnership. We stand with SPAR’s philosophy ‘The Joy of Living Locally’ and look forward to what this great series will bring!

Graham Jackson, Race Director at Quest Media Network said: “We’re looking forward to delivering another great series of events in the North West, all for good causes in the community. If you are looking for a great run, great atmosphere and an all-round good community event, book your place today!”

Monies from the events will be donated to the Running Bee Foundation to help create and fund health and well-being initiatives and projects in the North West.

All race events will include the MyFirst Mile course which aims to encourage individuals and communities to complete their very first mile, whether they run, walk, or jog. This first step is vital in moving towards an active lifestyle. The MyFirst mile course is accessible to adults and children.

Both The City of Preston 10k and Ron Hill Accrington 10k are popular within the local communities and the Tour of Tameside has proven to be a highly successful race event, which is steeped in history.

Running from 1981 to 2000, before being revived in 2015, the Tour of Tameside has attracted runners from all over the globe for decades.

Now, with the help of SPAR and Quest Media, events like the Tour can touch even more locals, helping to further inspire areas across the North.

There are tens of thousands of communities across the North West, often with a SPAR store at their heart. The team live and work in these areas and see their customers as neighbours.

The SPAR Series kicks off on 30th April 2023 with the Ron Hill Accrington 10k, then in June the Tour of Tameside spans from 15th to 18th before the series finishes on 4th September with the City of Preston 10k.
