Leading symbol group SPAR is raising a glass to awards season success with an impressive 44 medals across 23 own label wines, earned at three of the industry’s most prestigious competitions: the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA), International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC), and International Wine Challenge (IWC).
A standout highlight is the SPAR Valdobbiadene Prosecco, which scooped a Gold medal and Value Award recognition at this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards, firmly positioning it as one of the UK’s best sparkling wines under £10.
The judges awarded the Prosecco di Valdobbiadene Superiore a score of 95 points, praising it as: “Authentic and pure with a drive of green apple, lemon and pear drop which merges flawlessly with the supple, orange blossom mousse. Zippy and crisp on the finish.” Alc 11% and RSP £9.99.
Now in its 22nd year, the Decanter World Wine Awards, is recognised as the world’s largest and most influential wine competition, judged by top international experts. SPAR’s award winning Prosecco was further honoured as a Top 30 Value Gold winner, a recognition reserved for wines under £15 that demonstrate exceptional quality and finesse.
Amrit Rebello, Sales Development Manager at SPAR UK, said: “We are delighted to see our Valdobbiadene Prosecco recognised at such a high level. Earning one of just two Gold medals awarded to Prosecco in the UK is a tremendous achievement. It’s a testament to the fact that exceptional wine doesn’t have to come with a hefty price tag. Ours delivers quality, freshness and character at outstanding value.”
Philippa Carr MW, who curates SPAR’s wine ranges, added: “This is a bottle that stood out to world class judges in a blind tasting, a true testament to its exceptional quality. That it retails for less than £10 makes the result even more remarkable.”
Alongside the flagship Prosecco, several award wins came from SPAR’s own label value wine tier, developed last year to offer customers a trusted, great-tasting wine experience at an accessible price point. The range, which includes a crisp white, fresh rosé and fruity red, was carefully selected and benchmarked by Philippa Carr MW, to reflect the flavour profiles SPAR shoppers know and love.
Each wine in the value tier reflects SPAR’s commitment to combining taste, quality and value, and now proudly carries the endorsement of some of the most respected judging panels in the global wine industry.
The 44 awards span SPAR’s revamped and repackaged wine portfolio, including the newly launched Uptempo and Tasteheads ranges, both designed to meet evolving shopper preferences with bold flavours, clear taste cues, and accessible price points.
- Uptempo features seven wines centred around flavour-first styles such as Buttery, Crisp, Bold and Jammy, helping shoppers trade up from everyday bottles to more characterful options.
- Tasteheads continues with the flavourous theme and offers nine expressive wines for more engaged wine drinkers, exploring varietal character in depth from classics like Merlot to modern favourites such as Viognier.
Amrit Rebello added: “This is a multi-award-winning range that’s now independently endorsed across the board. From our top-tier Valdobbiadene to the Uptempo and Tasteheads bottles and SPAR’s accessible core range, each wine has been carefully crafted with flavour first, delivering outstanding value at every level. With an award winner in every tier, we are proud to offer something for every budget and preference.
“Evolving our own label wine offer is essential to help SPAR stores meet the ever-changing tastes of today’s wine shoppers, ensuring we stay relevant, competitive and trusted for quality across all tiers.”
All winning wines are available now in participating licensed SPAR stores across Great Britain.
