Following government guidelines, the 2020 SPAR Lancashire School Games County Finals event due to be held on the 30th June, and all other SPAR Lancashire School Games events from now (27th May) until the 30th June, have now officially been cancelled.

However, after the success of the SPAR Lancashire School Games online programme, we are delighted to announce that we will be hosting a virtual event on the 30th June, with a fantastic array of virtual activities available across the Lancashire School Games website and social media channels.

Over the past few months, Active Lancashire and SPAR (James Hall & Co. Ltd) have worked in partnership with Lancashire School Games Organisers to deliver a virtual offering of the SPAR Lancashire School Games through a brand new online platform.

Timetables of fun, daily sporting activities have inspired and motivated children and young people to keep active during lockdown, in line with school P.E. curriculums and guidance from the Youth Sport Trust and Sport England.

The SPAR Lancashire School Games Stay at Home programme will continue to deliver these virtual activities and provide resources to ensure people are active until the 30th June. Find out more at www.lancashireschoolgames.co.uk

The virtual 2020 SPAR Lancashire School Games festival on the 30th June will include:

  • Celebration Video- Celebrating the last 10 weeks of SPAR Lancashire School Games Heroes challenges.
  • SPAR Lancashire School Games Dance- In the build up to the SPAR Lancashire School Games Virtual festival a number of different dance videos will be released in which schools, families and young people can learn a new routine at home and perform on the 30th
  • SPAR Lancashire School Games challenges- A number of challenges will be set by our Lancashire School Games organisers to provide young people with the opportunity to achieve their personal best and challenge friends and family.

Adrian Leather, Chief Executive at Active Lancashire said “We are disappointed that our flagship event for young people in Lancashire has to be cancelled due to the ongoing crisis, but we’re excited to bring you our virtual SPAR Lancashire School Games on the 30th June.

We have been working hard with Lancashire School Games Organisers to develop and make available challenges and resources to carry forward the spirit of the SPAR Lancashire School Games which will be online. We urge young people to take up these challenges and utilise the resources.”

Peter Dodding, Sales and Marketing Director at James Hall & Co, SPAR wholesaler for the north of England said, “Active Lancashire and the Lancashire School Games Organisers have delivered a fantastic programme of activities to ensure that the SPAR Lancashire School Games could continue despite the challenges of lockdown.

We are thrilled that children and young people will still be able to take part in a virtual festival on the 30th June and would like to thank the team for all their hard work in making the virtual platform such a success, in a very short period of time.”

Lee Cadwallader, Wyre and Fylde School Games Organiser (Chair of Lancashire SGO’s) said, “We are equally as frustrated as the schools and children of Lancashire that the traditional delivery of the SPAR Lancashire School Games qualifying calendar cannot take place this year due to Covid-19.

However, through proactive and innovative partnership work, the Lancashire School Games Organiser Network and Active Lancashire have devised a competitive home timetable of events which will still accumulate in our celebration event on the 30th June. We are very excited to be offering this virtual event which will still be able to showcase the amazing sporting talents of our county.”
